Job Description

Job Overview:

The Child Psychologist will provide clinical services, including neuropsychological assessments, to children and adolescents experiencing emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, administering neuropsychological tests, and delivering individual and family therapy. The psychologist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care, including consultations with families, schools, and other healthcare professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessment and Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
Administer and interpret neuropsychological tests to evaluate memory, attention, executive function, learning disabilities, and developmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders).
Utilize age-appropriate, evidence based, standardized psychological assessment tools to diagnose emotional and behavioral disorders.
Neuropsychological Testing:
Design and administer neuropsychological tests tailored to each child's presenting concerns, considering factors such as developmental level and cultural background.
Analyze test results to develop a clear understanding of the child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses.
Provide detailed psychological evaluation reports, summarizing findings and offering recommendations for treatment and academic accommodations.
Present the findings of psychological testing to families, and incorporate test findings into treatment plans and educational accommodations.
Treatment Planning and Intervention:
Develop individualized treatment plans based on psychological and neuropsychological assessments.
Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, and other modalities.
Regularly participate in treatment team meetings, monitor progress, and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing evaluations of progress and changes in the child’s condition.
Collaboration and Consultation:
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, therapists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists, to provide holistic care.
Work closely with schools, courts and educational professionals to ensure that neuropsychological findings translate into effective interventions in academic settings.
Serve as a consultant for families and caregivers, providing guidance on how to support the child’s development at home and school.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely clinical documentation, including neuropsychological evaluation reports.
Ensure compliance with state, federal, and agency policies regarding mental health care, privacy, and neuropsychological testing standards.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Masters or Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, with a focus on child and adolescent psychology.
Licensed as a Psychologist in West Virginia.
Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting neuropsychological testing with children and adolescents.
Experience with testing for developmental disorders, learning disabilities, and cognitive impairments is required.
Strong understanding of child development, neuropsychology, and psychopathology.
Proficiency in administering and interpreting a variety of neuropsychological assessments (e.g., WISC, WAIS, MMPI-A-RF, Conners 4).
Excellent communication and report-writing skills to present complex test results clearly to families and professionals.
