Position Summary:
The Florida Atlantic University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for a tenure-line assistant or associate professor position starting Fall 2026 on the Boca Raton campus. While all substantive areas of expertise will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants whose research agenda is (a) informed by emerging technologies in criminology and criminal justice that ensure security, privacy, and the protection of civil rights; improve safety and community relations; and/or foster innovation in research and practice, or (b) crosses disciplinary boundaries to develop integrated knowledge for advancing research and addressing societal challenges.
The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment that begins August 8, 2026. Faculty are expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and across multiple modalities, including fully online courses. The current teaching load is 3:2, though pre-tenure assistant professors receive release time to establish their research program. Teaching over the summer is available for additional compensation. The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work. Our intention is to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through scholarship, teaching, and service.
Our School offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree, a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree, and a 5-year combined BA/MS degree program in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The SCCJ is also home to the paralegal and legal nurse consulting certificate programs. The undergraduate degree program is the fifth largest by enrollment at Florida Atlantic and offers a rich educational environment through multiple delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, a new forensic investigation minor, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or allied field is required. ABDs will be considered but requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by the position start date. A Juris Doctorate alone is not sufficient. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to conduct independent research and publish in peer reviewed journals, have a record of or the potential for securing external funding, engage in research and/or service with our communities.
